JÁN NUS

BIOGRAPHY

Ján Nus comes from the eastern part of Slovakia. He was born on April 3, 1967 in Vranov nad Topľou. He currently lives with his family in the nearby village of Slovenská Kajňa.

His interests include, first of all, art and nature, but also history and folklore. As a young man, he devoted himself to drawing which was very dear to his heart. Later on, he moved on to the painting. He exhibited his works both in Slovakia and abroad. His thoughts often drove him to the wood – he was thinking about its processing and use in his future artistic production.

He was most fascinated by the specific characteristic of the wood related to the structure of the tree age rings, to which he finally devoted his artistic production. He was also attracted by the color of the wood which is given by nature and to which he needs to adapt. This creative production finds its place in the sculptor-artist’s studio.

„The wood has nice organised lines. They remind us of cylinders that are arranged one in the another one and so on. Its never possible to plan ahead what the exact result would be like”.

VIEW ON TO THE ARTISTIC PRODUCTION OF JÁN NUS

akad.mal. Jozef Jackanič

It is useful to know what happens in the life of the wood. The author offers it to you for your knowledge and insight so that you be able to create your own opinion. Diagonals, lines, light, shadow or their struggle is the essence of the creation of Ján Nus. Its amazing to observe the transformations of a living tree as they become the bearers of new artistic values.

He works very sensitively with wood coloring, complemented by his own vision of modelling of light struggling with shadow. The works represent the dynamics and movement that captivate us by their ingenious composition and, by their intentions, affect deeply the emotions of every susceptible human being. The technique presented by the author is very demanding and can greatly enhance and enrich the experience of persons looking at the works. He tries to authorise his ideas in a monumental, final form, even though the constant search for new forms is of unlimited essence. He strives to transform fine wood coloring into strong plasticity, compositions, shapes and lines. It is amazing to observe and perceive the evolution in this exceptional improvisation of nature.

I very much appreciate the restlessness in his work which shows constant shift in the search of something unknown from the point of view of a new, unusual technique. The process of searching itself is a great artistic force in knowing and offering the wood, making it richer and more beautiful.

Wings of the wood, amazing symbiosis of material, movement and rhythm, on the verge of the real world. It is very important to see what the author reveals in his realisation. Knowing such shapes and thinking – these are the peculiarities of Ján Nus.

„ It is a stormy, tumultuous wine – you are obliged to know how to drink and enjoy it. Do you know where its „final station“ is? ”
